Competition is heating up at the 2012 Honda Australian Junior Motocross Championship (AJMX) in Queensland, where more than 400 young riders are locked in battle for just sixteen championship crowns.

With over 50 races completed since racing got underway on Monday, riders will now embark on a full three-day program of championship deciding finals.

After three days of track action, Queensland rider Mason Rowe (KTM) has emerged as top qualifier in the 65cc 9-U11 class, ahead of fellow Queenslander Lance Cameron (KTM) and NSW rider Tyler Darby (KTM).

Western Australian star Caleb Grothues (KTM) leads the 85cc 9-U12 field after three qualifying events. The current 65cc World Champion recorded a perfect 75-point sweep ahead of NSW rider Riley Dukes (KTM/SS Racing) and Victoria’s Cody Dyce (Yamaha Junior Racing).

Queensland charger Wilson Todd (Yamaha Junior Racing) impressed in the 85cc 12-U14 heats, taking a triple moto victory to secure the highest qualifying results in front of Queensland rival Mitchell Evans (GMR Motorex KTM Australia Race Team) and Northern Territory rider Luke Abela (KTM).

The fiercely competitive 100-150cc 13-U15 heats produced a set of tight results, with Queenslander Caleb Ward (KTM) topping the board with 63 points, just a single point clear of NSW rider Dylan Heaton (KTM) and three in front of Queensland pilot Braden Collins (KTM).

Queensland rider Joel Dinsdale (Yamaha) made a blistering start to his 200-250cc 15 years campaign, cleaning up all three heat events to record an immaculate 75 points. Western Australia’s Jayden Rykers (Honda Junior Development Team) and Queensland’s Richard Evans (KTM Australia) finished the heats in second and third.

The heat events have been interspersed with a flurry of finals races across the other nine Championship classes, from the 50cc Auto 7-U9 to the 200-250cc 13-U15.
