Pirelli Motorcycle Tyres will bring World Championship pedigree to the Australian Supercross Championships as it joins on as a premium partner.
The brand has been producing motorcycle tyres for over 100 years and is renowned for its technical precision and contribution to tyre technology advances.
At the forefront of motorsport, Pirelli has won a total of 58 World Championships, and has tasted local success most recently as winner of the MX Nationals MX2 class, winner of the Australian Off Road Championship and the iconic Hattah and Finke desert races.
Pirelli’s partnership will involve activity at dealer and competition levels, as well as on-site presence at each event of the Australian Supercross Championships.
The Pirelli Privateer Contingency sponsorship will directly benefit the top performing privateer riders, with the top 3 in Pro Open and Pro Lites running Pirelli tyres and stickers to receive ‘Link Dollars’ from Australian Pirelli distributor Link International. In each class the winner will receive $500, second place $300 and third place $200.
Don Nicholas, National Manager of Pirelli Motorcycle Tyres for Australian distributor Link International, said the partnership presented a number of exciting opportunities for the brand.
“Pirelli has a worldwide reputation as a leader when it comes to tyre technology, and working closely with riders, teams and motorcycle sport bodies is an integral part of maintaining this,” said Nicholas.
“Australia rivals the best in the world when it comes to developing Motocross and Supercross talent and we’re excited to join the new Australian Supercross Championships as a premium partner.
“Pirelli will play an important role in the Championships’ founding year through activity at events, dealer activities and promotions as well as working directly with riders and teams.
“The Pirelli Privateer Contingency sponsorship will reward riders who perform at high levels within the premier classes, with the aim of helping them to move forward and achieve even greater goals.”
Yarrive Konsky, Managing Director of International Entertainment Group, promoters of the Australian Supercross Championships welcomed Pirelli’s involvement.
“I’m delighted that Pirelli as part of their sponsorship have chosen to support privateers with the Pirelli Privateer Contingency program,” said Konsky.
“Giving the first three privateer place-getters ‘Link Dollars’ is a great way to be able to support the top privateers running Pirelli tyres during all four rounds of the 2012 Australian Supercross Championships.”
The Australian Supercross Championships will be contested over four rounds during October and November, kicking off at Dubbo in New South Wales on 13 October.
