Riders descended Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park for the final stop of the 2012 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, where the championship battles went down to the wire.

Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey, already wrapping up the 2012 premier class title, once again stamped his authority taking home a perfect 1-1 sweep for his 10th consecutive overall win of the season.

Putting himself in the best position possible throughout the day was MotoConcepts’ Mike Alessi, with two holeshots Alessi was able to stick it to the champion, eventually finishing up with a 2-2 moto scorecard for the day.

Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Broc Tickle finished off his season strong, landing the runner-up spot in both 450 motos, his 3-3 moto finishes landed him a podium spot in third.

Dungey was able to stretch out a 127-point lead over second place Alessi in the championship standings, while Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jake Weimer rounds out the top three 225 points back from the 2012 champion.

The hotly contested 250 Class set the stage for a nail biting finish, with just 18 points separating series’ leader Blake Baggett, Eli Tomac and Justin Barcia.

Baggett was able to put his Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki in position to secure his first-ever AMA outdoor title.

Fending off advances from the GEICO Honda duo of Tomac and Barcia, Baggett used a consistent 1-2 moto scorecard to clinch the championship.

Barcia gave it all he had, but came up short. ‘Bam-Bam’ finished up the day in second overall with 3-1 moto finishes, securing himself second overall in the championship.

Teammate Tomac was unable to contend for the title, after suffering a tough moto two on the day, 2-14 finishes saw the Colorado native in seventh overall for the day and rounding out the top three in standings.

Baggett finished up with a winning margin of 20 points over Barcia in second, while Tomac finished up 32 points behind in third.

Dungey, Baggett and Barcia will now set their sites on taking home another FIM Motocross of Nations title, as they head to the sands of Lommel in Belgium on 29-30 September.
