The season finale of the 2012 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship is set to take place this weekend at Lake Elsinore in Southern California.
The highly-anticipated arrival at Lake Elsinore’s all-new circuit will bring the opportunity for winners of the event to put their names down as first-ever winners at the newest location on tour.
Ryan Dungey, already clinching his second 450 Class outdoor title just a few rounds ago, leads the premier class into the event on his Red Bull KTM.
Following behind Dungey is MotoConcepts’ Mike Alessi who sits comfortably in second place overall, the ultra-consistent Alessi will be searching for that elusive overall win this weekend.
The battle for third overall in the premier class will go down to the wire, as Chaparral Honda’s Andrew Short sits just six points ahead of Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jake Weimer in fourth place.
The 250 Class is heating up with the recent onslaught from GEICO Honda’s Eli Tomac. The Colorado native has made up 18 points on Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Blake Baggett over the last two rounds.
This recent shift in points places Tomac within striking distance of series’ leader Baggett, the championship will be decided in an exciting two-moto dual on Saturday.
Lurking in third place is GEICO Honda’s Justin Barcia, one you can never count out. Barcia sits just four points behind teammate Tomac, expect ‘Bam-Bam’ to be right there battling for the win.
Australia’s own Josh Cachia will be contesting at Lake Elsinore on his JDR Motorsports entry. Cachia took third overall in the Monster Energy MX Nationals MX2 class recently, and will surely be looking to put in an impressive showing on debut in the US.
