Daniel Milner has his sights set on taking his Ballard’s Yamaha Park and Fly Off-Road Team entry to the top spot of the 2012 Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship’s E1 division.
With just Saturday’s cross-country and Sunday’s sprint left to contend this weekend at Kapunda’s final round in South Australia, the Victorian will enter the round carrying an 11-point lead as he works towards wrapping up his first ever title.
“It should be a good event,” Milner said. ‘”We rode at this venue two years ago and the track was sick. Hopefully it’s a similar track — it will be good fun.
“The terrain is hilly, with a bit of rock — a lot of flowy single-line stuff. It also had a bit of grass track in it.
“We had a three-hour last time as well and it was real good. I’m sure it will be just as good this year.”
After running out of fuel in the previous round of the championship at Broadford in Victoria, Milner is motivated to get back on track.
“I’m feeling pretty fit for the cross-country, so hopefully I can go well in that,” he explained.
“Then, on Sunday, for the sprint — just try to back it up and have another good day.”
Milner also adds that while he’d love to get ahead of teammate Matt Phillips for the number two spot in the outright division, trying for his first E1 class win was his main priority.
“I think I’ve gotta get someone in between me and Matt, with me and front, for me to beat him for the Outright,” Milner added. “But Matt’s been riding really well, the whole team has, actually… hopefully I can get there, but I’ve had some mistakes this year and that’s racing, you can’t do anything about that.
“The class win is what I’m focusing on — it would mean a lot to me to win my first Australian title.”
Along with leading the E1 class by 11 points, Milner currently sits 11-points behind Tasmanian teammate Phillips in the Outright division.
