Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jay Marmont won Australia’s richest motocross event, the King of the Cross, in Western Australia yesterday.

Marmont was in fine form in Southern Cross, WA, winning four out of five motos on his way to being crowned the champion. The victory marked Jay Marmont’s fourth win at the event.

“It’s good to be back on top of the box again,” Marmont said. “There was definitely some good competition out there but I felt good all day. My starts were really good. My KX450F got me the hole-shot in four out of five races.

“I got a bit of confidence today after a rough season so far and I feel like my speed is there again so I’m really looking forward to the next few rounds of the motocross nationals and the upcoming supercross series.”

The victory came at a good time for the defending Australian Motocross and Supercross Champion, who is on his way back from an injury hampered 2012 season to date.

Marmont’s brother Ryan, of the JDR/KTM team, was crowned Prince of the Cross in second overall, while WA local Dean Porter was third.

Carlton Dry Honda Thor Racing’s Brad Anderson ended up fourth overall, with Louis Calvin completing the top five.

Marmont will now look to finish the remaining two rounds of the 2012 Monster Energy MX Nationals as strongly as he can before he sets out to defend his Australian Supercross title.
