MotoOnline.com.au speaks to the JDR/KTM rider about his return to racing.
Season 2012 has been a quiet one of sorts for Ryan Marmont, plagued by a string of injuries that have promptly derailed his early hopes of regaining the MX2 national title.
Marmont was forced out following the Wonthaggi round to allow his injuries to completely heal, but is now back on his JDR/KTM 250 SX-F and looking for a return quicker than anticipated.
MotoOnline.com.au gave him a quick call this afternoon to see how his recovery’s coming along, amongst other subjects.
First of all mate, long time no speak on the record. How are the injuries?
Injuries are good. I had surgery, got my hand fixed about 12 weeks back now and yeah, my injuries are healed up 100 percent. I’ve been back on the bike for a week now and it’s feeling good, feeling strong.
You’re thinking of returning for the final two outdoor rounds at Moree and Coolum, right?
Yeah, I am. I’m going to do the Southern Cross in Perth next weekend, that way I can see where I’m at and see how far off I am. It still gives me a bit of time to work for Moree and Coolum, so fingers crossed. If the body’s up to it, I’ll be there.
How much seat time have you had in recent weeks? Have you been riding with Jay at all?
I have mate, yeah. At the start of last week and then this week obviously, so I feel good. I don’t even feel like I’ve been off it, it’s just time on the bike and getting my fitness back to where it needs to be. It’s just going to take a bit of time, but I’ll be trying my best to get back racing as soon as possible.
Looking toward Appin this weekend, the word is you’re going to take on the team management role on Sunday…
Yeah, Derek and Trish [Rynenberg] won’t be at the race this weekend since they had to fly to America at the last minute, so they asked me to take over the reigns and help out young Josh and Dan. So I’ll be there, sticking my head around, bossing people around and telling them what to do [laughs].
And for 2013, there are obviously a lot of rumours regarding KTM’s program. Do you have anything set in stone at this stage personally?
At this stage it’s all early days. There may be some new plans for KTM next year, but either way I’m in talks with them and I want to be a part of the brand for a long time.
I don’t want to move away from KTM, I want to stick in there any way possible. I’ll be sitting down with Jeff [Leisk] over there next few weeks and see if there’s any way that I can slot in with the brand.
Thanks for the quick chat, see you on the weekend.
No worries, thanks Al.
