Serco Yamaha Metal Mulisha Racing’s Kirk Gibbs continued to suffer more tough luck over the weekend at Horsham’s round seven of the Monster Energy MX Nationals after being tangled up in a rough MX2 first turn pile-up.

Gibbs went down heavily in moto two and was collided with by a number of riders while down in the sloppy Victorian soil.

Visibly in pain, Gibbs battled to finish the moto. Bruised and banged-up the South Australian then elected to sit out the final race of the day.

“I’m just disappointed,” said Gibbs. “I have been putting in a huge amount of work with my training and fitness during the week but at the moment it’s just not showing up on the weekends.

“I’m not really sure how the crash happened in moto two other than it was in the first turn and a few of us ended up on the ground and I got hit a few times.”

Gibbs will get checked over to ensure everything is in order before heading into round eight at Appin.

“Nothing is broken but I’m sore at the moment,” he added. “I will get everything checked out when I get home and come back fresh for Appin.”

Gibbs now sits seventh overall in the MX2 points chase with just three rounds of racing to go. The series now heads to Appin in New South Wales for round eight on 29 July.
