Amongst the cheers and chants of the infamous RedBud crowd, it was Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey and Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Blake Baggett who rose to the top at round six of the 2012 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship in Michigan.

In the 450 Class the battles were expected to resume with the return of Yoshimura Suzuki’s James Stewart after injury, but that was not the case.

Dungey rode to a perfect 1-1 moto sweep, extending his moto win streak to eight. Behind Dungey an impressive performance by Muscle Milk Honda’s Justin Brayton saw him land on the podium in second place, his first of the season.

Stewart experienced a rough first moto, eventually finishing in sixth. Regrouping for moto two, the former-champion rode to a solid third place, rounding out the top three overall on the day.

Dungey, the 2010 national champion, has now extended his lead to 72 points over MotoConcepts’ Mike Alessi. Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jake Weimer holds down third in the series with a 12-point gap between himself and Alessi.

The Baggett show was back in town for the second time around this year at RedBud, sweeping both 250 Class motos, just as he did in the 2011 event. Baggett further extended his series points lead over GEICO Honda’s Justin Barcia.

Barcia challenged Baggett throughout the day, the duo pushed the pace and separated themselves as the riders to beat. The current AMA Supercross East Coast Lites champion finished up the day in the runner-up position in both motos for second overall.

Rounding out the top three it was Barcia’s teammate Eli Tomac who battled through the pair of former world champions in Ken Roczen and Marvin Musquin, both Red Bull KTM mounted. Tomac scored 5-3 moto scores for third place as the racing wrapped up.

Baggett now holds a 19-point lead over rival Barcia in the overall 250 Class standings, while Tomac attempts to keep his title hopes alive sitting 36 points off of the lead in third.

Round seven of the 2012 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship will take place on 14 July at the Spring Creek facility in Millville, Minnesota.
