Australia’s Robbie Maddison suffered a rough fall during practice for Moto X Speed and Style at X Games 18 in Los Angeles over the weekend, suffering even more injuries to add to his already long list.
Maddison was kicked over the handlebars while riding through the whoops on the Speed and Style course, broken ribs, a punctured lung and a laceration to the right leg were the result.
Initial reports of a compound fracture to the leg were found to be incorrect, as a deformity to the leg was determined by X-rays to have been pre-existing.
“Thanks for all the well wishes everyone,” said Maddison via Twitter. “I just woke up in a lot less pain. Broken ribs and punctured lung. Leg is all good.”
Maddison, who recently switched to the Jeff Ward Racing Kawasaki, was picked as a favourite to take gold in the event and all reports say the Aussie was in top form before the incident.
This early exit from the 2012 X Games adds to the list of unsuccessful campaigns, after having to withdraw from his Moto X events last year because of compressed vertebrae in his lower back. He also missed the 2007 and 2009 X Games with a broken leg and dislocated shoulder, respectively.
