Former national champion Daryl Hurley is set to head to Wonthaggi this weekend to assist the Zero Seven Motorsports team at the third round of the Monster Energy MX Nationals.
Hurley has been working hard in the past week with 16-year-old kiwi Dion Picard, building speed and technique to take to his MXD rivals.
The New Zealand native will also use his knowledge and experience to help MX2 rider, Adam Monea, with any race day questions.
“I’ve had a great relationship with Powelly [Steve Powell] from SPMX for many years – he was my race mechanic at Suzuki for a few seasons and we’ve always remained good friends,” said Hurley.
“When he asked if I’d be interested in helping the team and their riders I jumped at the chance.”
Hurley explains that this opportunity could see him get back out on the track.
“It’s been four years since I raced at the MX Nationals myself. Time flies. Who knows, maybe this will get me keen to race again!”
MXD rider Picard says it is good to have someone like Hurley to chase mid-week.
“I’ve spent the most of this week riding with Hurlz,” said Picard. “He has really been helping me with my race pace and technique. It’s so good to have someone like him to ride with and chase on the track too.”
MX2 rider Monea adds that he will listen to every piece of advice he can get.
“I’ve always looked up to and admired Daryl,” said Monea. “He was always so smooth as a racer and his line selection was always so good to watch. He knows how to win at the Wonthaggi track, so I’ll listen to every piece of advice he can give me!”
Hurley and Zero Seven Motorsports will be hitting the track this weekend, 28-29 April, in Wonthaggi, VIC.
