MXD championship threat Shaun Redhead has been ruled out of this weekend’s second round of the Monster Energy MX Nationals at Goanna Tracks in Coonabarabran.
GYTR Yamaha’s Redhead will miss round two after sustain a broken bone in his hand as well as a broken big toe after crashing at Conondale’s season opener a fortnight ago.
Redhead is expected back for round three at Wonthaggi but is devastated about his injury and the massive blow to his championship campaign.
“I feel pretty lousy at the moment,” he said. “My hand and toe will heal back to 100 percent, but the fact that I crashed out so early in the race and the season was silly and I have let myself down.
“But I can’t change it now, all I can do is learn from it and then come back strongly when I’m back to full fitness.”
It was a case of mixed fortunes for the Yamaha Under 19 team at round one with one rider on the podium and the other out with a broken hand in the first race.
Team newcomer Sam Martin didn’t have it easy on his way to a third place finish at Conondale as he struggled with a shoulder injury, but he was able to post consistent scores to make the podium.
“I guess I’m a bit like [Kirk] Gibbs in that the first round was a battle to get through and having to use the time between the rounds to manage and recover from our injuries,” he commented.
“I have been able to get some riding in and continue training so that is positive and I feel a little better heading into this round than I did at Conondale.”
The GYTR Yamaha team is the official development program of Yamaha Motor Australia in domestic motocross and supercross.
