Motul Pirelli Suzuki newcomer Todd Waters will wait until the opening round of the 2012 MX Nationals before making any bold predictions regarding his current form.
The talented 21-year-old will enter this season as a dark horse for round wins and podiums aboard the factory RM-Z450, but isn’t certain where he’ll fit into the pecking order when the series kicks off on 1 April at Conondale in Queensland.
“I’ve got mixed thoughts on it all,” Waters admitted. “I’m fairly confident with how I’m riding I guess, but I just want to get some racing under my belt. There are a lot of good riders in the field this year, it’s packed, so it will be good racing.”
While much of the media focus has circled around the internationals such as Ben Townley and Brad Anderson, Waters is content that he’s entering the season under the radar. He aims to gain confidence as the season progresses.
“There are a lot of high profile riders this year,” he continued. “I’m definitely flying under the radar, but I’m just hoping that I can get some good starts and have some good races.
“It’s a deep field, so I guess to get moto wins would be pretty good against Townley and those kind of guys.”
