Australia’s Cody Mackie has reflected on his first ever Monster Energy AMA Supercross main event in Oakland last Saturday, qualifying on debut with Jeff Ward Racing.
Speaking to Racer X Online in the ‘Open Mic’ feature (click here to view), Mackie said it was a hard-fought main event as he raced to a credible 16th position against the world’s top riders.
“The main went good. I got a really good start and then on the first lap I got hit pretty hard from, well I’m not sure who, but it kind of stuffed me the whole rhythm section and I had to roll and lost about six or seven positions,” Mackie reflected.
“And then it was just a freight train out there. Pretty much a lot of us were the same speed I think so it was a bit hard to pass.”
Mackie credited the performance of his JWR KX450F for his result, but is ultimately just thankful for the opportunity he has at the moment.
“I’ve definitely got a better bike under me at the moment,” Mackie added. “So that’s probably a big help, and a great team. I’m just thankful for the opportunity.
“I just got a phone call from Lucas [Mirtl] and he said he’d give me a shot this weekend and he gave me a shot. I’m pumped the whole team has behind me and it’s been great.”
The team this week confirmed that Mackie will again ride for them at Anaheim II this weekend as Grant continues to recuperate.
