Australia’s Chad Reed has spoken out about the future of TwoTwo Motorsports in a revealing interview with MotoOnline.com.au.
Coming off a mega win at Los Angeles’ third round of AMA Supercross last Saturday night, Reed has confirmed that the team continues to search for a title sponsor.
While the team is financially stable to field Reed as TwoTwo’s lone rider, his plans for expansion in the years to come will have to include increased sponsorship in a bid to sign a second rider.
“Right now the pressure comes from me wanting to take the team to the next level,” Reed told MotoOnline.com.au in an exclusive interview.
“We have to find a sponsor that fits us and to come in financially to put us in a position to go after somebody young.”
Reed revealed that he has a few rising stars in mind as potential future 450 candidates at TwoTwo Motorsports, before adding that he also has interest in current proven 450 riders.
“I’d really like to go after a [Dean] Wilson, a [Justin] Barcia, an [Eli] Tomac or some young kid who is willing to move up to the 450 Class,” Reed continued.
“And then I’d really like to go after one of the top guys, like a [Ryan] Villopoto or something.”
With Reed contracted to race at least through the 2013 season before evaluating his options, he’s already considering the future of TwoTwo Motorsports post-retirement.
“The goal is to put people on the team who can take the reins and run with it, to put us in race-winning and championship contention year in, year out, to keep this team going,” he concluded.
