JDR Motorex KTM’s Tye Simmonds has confirmed that he’ll be back on home soil full time in 2012, re-signing with Australia’s factory KTM team following a year in the U.S.
Simmonds finished second in Ipswich’s season finale last weekend, which also secured him second in the championship behind Jay Marmont aboard the 450 SX-F.
Simmonds entered the round just five points off series leader Marmont, who he trailed in the 20-lap main event.
“I take my hat off to Jay, he’s a deserving champion and rode a solid 20 laps tonight to get it done,” 19-year-old Simmonds said.
“I have to give it up for the whole JDR Motorex KTM team and my family as well.
“We just confirmed I’ll be back with the team in 2012, so hopefully we can go one better next year.”
During his rookie season in the AMA’s premier 450 Class, Simmonds finished 23rd in supercross and 17th in the outdoors.
