Confirmed - Broken leg rules Boyd out of Super X remainder

Cheyne Boyd has been ruled out of Super X with a broken leg.

Cheyne Boyd has been ruled out of Super X with a broken leg.

Carlton Dry Honda Thor Racing has confirmed that Victorian Cheyne Boyd suffered a broken fibia in last weekend’s Wollongong round of Monster Energy Super X.

Boyd crashed heavily in his Super X heat race at Wollongong’s WIN Stadium last weekend, when another competitor ran off line, got crossed up and careered into his path.

It is a disappointing end to the season for the Open class rider, who had shown great form throughout the first two Super X events, including setting the second-quickest qualifying time in Wollongong.

“To be honest I didn’t realise my leg was as bad as it was until I lined up for the final,” Boyd explained.

“All I had in my head was that I needed to get out there. I knew how good I was riding and to DNF in such a short series puts you out of contention. When I went out for the final I couldn’t even start my bike, I had to get one of the guys to start it.

“I stood and put pressure on my leg and I felt something crack in my shin. I suspected it was broken but once I started riding I kept telling myself I wouldn’t be able to ride if it was broken so I kept going.

“If anything I didn’t achieve much by riding, but I wanted to keep going to prove how far I would go and how determined I am to do well,” he said.

While Boyd recuperates the rest of the Carlton Dry Honda Thor Racing team will continue to prepare for this weekends third round of Super X at Campbelltown Stadium.
