HSE Motorex KTM’s Ben Grabham took victory on debut in Western Australia’s Gascoyne Dash over the weekend on 28-30 October aboard a 2012 model 450 SX-F.
The 30-year-old from Bathurst in New South Wales was at his brilliant best in the ‘Gas Dash’, winning the bikes and also being crowned King of the River after taking the Outright victory against the four-wheel buggies.
After 500 kilometres of intense racing in hot temperatures, Grabham made his way to the front of the field and was first to return back to the Coonatha Race Complex on Sunday afternoon.
“It was good to get to the Gas Dash and even better to win the event,” Grabham said. “I kind of got caught out a bit of the first day with the heat and the rough track, but I had a comfortable lead anyway and it was a good start.
“Normally at Finke we struggle to get close to the buggies, but I saw we were close after the first day and I set the goal of trying to beat them on day two. I ended up finishing a couple of minutes ahead of them, which gave me the Outright win for the bikes and the cars.
“It was definitely good to get back to that style of race and the 2012 model 450 SX-F was faultless in the conditions. It was hard work, but all worth it for the end result.”
