Scottish import Billy Mackenzie admits his frustration is increasing after throwing away victory for the second weekend in succession at Wollongong’s round of Monster Energy Super X.
The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider was leading again at WIN Stadium in the rain-soaked main event, however a mistake in the whoops saw him go off track before losing multiple positions as he got stuck on the ply floorboards that are placed beneath the track’s dirt surface.
Mackenzie raced to an eventual ninth place finish, but he’s desperate to seal the deal with a victory this weekend in Campbelltown on Saturday night.
“I was actually having a really good final. I got out of the gate well and managed to get into the lead on the second lap,” Mackenzie explained. “I was feeling comfortable, doing the triple and pulling ground. I was just trying to find a few lines and keep it consistent but it just caught me out on this one little section before the whoops.
“I slid it off the track and with the ply boards down it took me a while to get back on, I was just sitting on the ply wood spinning so it was really frustrating, I got a bit angry. After that I just tried to put some consistent laps together and get as high up the order as I could.
“I’m really really frustrated at losing the lead again. I did it at the first round and it’s happened again the second round. I just have to put it right at the third”.
Mackenzie now sits equal third in the series, just seven points off new leader Dan McCoy following two of five rounds.
