Since Super X was introduced in 2008, there has been a many great moments in the Australasian Supercross Championship. World class riders, U.S. style circuits and a host of unique formats that you wont see anywhere else around the globe have well and truly put Australia on the supercross map. Now, here are some of the highlights that we could think of here at MotoOnline.com.au.

Jay Marmont’s emotional win – Canberra 2009

Canberra’s 2009 running of Super X will forever go down as one of the most emotional events ever witnessed in Australian dirt bike competition. Just days after his baby daughter Lila sadly passed away, Aussie fan favourite Jay Marmont raced to an incredible win that made headlines around the nation.

Chad Reed and Cody Mackie – Tasmania 2009

With less than half a lap left to run, it looked as though Cody Mackie was on his way to a big win in Tasmania. However, Chad Reed had other ideas, slicing his way past for the W and leaving Mackie on the ground in his wake!

Huge crowd – Brisbane 2009

James Stewart was a massive draw card when it came to 2009’s season finale in Brisbane, albeit eventually not showing up due to health problems. It was a mega disappointment, but Aussie fans still got to see some of the best in the world go head-to-head with the likes of Davi Millsaps and Josh Grant coming out to race.

Jay Marmont and Chad Reed – Townsville 2008

In a clear battle of the titans, Jay Marmont said it was time to “take the big dog down” and he did it. In challenging muddy conditions, Marmont and Reed went at it bar-to-bar until Reed eventually went down trying to make a move. It was Super X in the mud at its best, with Marmont gaining the glory on that occasion.

Chad Reed debuts Honda – Newcastle 2010

Just days before Newcastle’s season opener last year, Chad Reed unveiled that he’d be riding a privateer Honda with the support of the iconic TeamVodafone branding. He didn’t disappoint either, winning before going on to form his very own team in the U.S. just weeks later.

Moss twins win – Sydney 2010

You can’t deny the talent of Matt and Jake Moss, with the twins taking a spectacular sweep of Sydney’s round last year at Parramatta Stadium for Suzuki. Matt won the Lites while Jake won the Opens, proving a very proud evening in front of many friends and family members for the Moss brothers.

Jeremy McGrath podiums – Sydney 2009

Australia has fond memories of Jeremy McGrath, the King of Supercross. MC came out of retirement and contested a number of Aussie rounds, scoring a superb and highly popular podium at Parramatta in 2009 alongside Chad Reed and Jay Marmont. Long live the king!

Lawson Bopping and Matt Moss – Sydney 2009

It was a case of satellite rookie versus factory star in 2009 when Lawson Bopping made a determined final lap move on Matt Moss to win a final during the Sydney round of Super X. The pair went back and forth until clashing with a couple of corners to go, which sent Moss to the ground.

Pro Lites title fight – Brisbane 2010

With the Super X Lites title fight going down to the wire at Brisbane last year, it was essentially a winner takes all affair. Add in the mud and the title was anybody’s. Matt Moss won it on the night, but later it was declared that PJ Larsen be awarded the crown due to a technicality. It was one of the most controversial moments ever in the sport that took weeks to finalise.

Cameron Taylor crashes – Sydney 2009

A veteran of the sport who’s now retired, Cameron Taylor was lucky to escape serious injury when he went down at Parramatta in 2009. After landing on the tough block off the triple, Taylor was sent face-first into the next obstacle in a scary turn of events. It’s a crash he wont be forgetting any time soon!
