After grabbing his maiden AMA Motocross win at Southwick, and then backing up with a podium finish at Steel City on the weekend, Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Brett Metcalfe is feeling confident he can keep the streak going at this weekend’s Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship finale at Pale Raceway.
Still on a high after his Southwick win, Steel City saw patience and consistency eventually pay off for Metcalfe battiling for thirs almost the entire first moto before grabbing the final podium spot before the race’s end.
Moto two saw another good start before moving up a few positions to finish fourth. The combined results gave Metcalfe his third podium finish of the season.
“Steel City was a great day for me,” said Metcalfe.
“I was able to pull a third and I was happy to be on the podium. I was feeling really comfortable on the Rockstar Makita Suzuki RM-Z450 and, coming off the win last weekend, I was carrying some momentum.”
“I felt really comfortable on the track and the bike was working great, so I knew I was in for a good day. “My starts were better in both motos and that helped and I was also able to make some moves,” the Aussie continued.
With momentum on his side, Metcalfe feels confident of another strong finish at Pala to round out the season, the same track which saw him put in a phenomenal ride in 2010 to take second in the 450 championship.
“Now I’m looking forward to Pala as it’s kind of my hometown race. I’m just excited about that, I think it’s going to be a good event and I look forward to putting the Rockstar Makita Suzuki back up on the podium and having a strong finish in the Championship.”
Metcalfe currently sits fourth in the series standings, trailing fellow Aussie Chad Reed by 60 points.
