Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Billy Mackenzie finished third at the Duns round of the British Motocross Championship last weekend in Scotland, now set for his World Motocross return on Sunday.

Mackenzie, who last month secured third in the MX Nationals, raced through the pack in each race at Duns to score 2-3-3 results for the final overall podium position with LPE Kawasaki.

“It was a pretty average day for me to tell the truth,” Mackenzie reflected. “I got out to a good start in the first moto and was second into the corner. I made my way to the lead and was riding smooth and easy but I got a bit tight with two laps to go and stalled it in a corner.

“In the second moto I hit neutral over the gate and was dead last. I rode well though to come through to third, I was right behind them at the finish and that was probably the best I rode all day. I was the fastest guy on the track.

“Then I got an average start in the third moto and some guy crashed in front of me on the second corner. Three of us piled up and it took me a while to get going. I came through well again though and found third.

“I had the fastest lap time in that race so overall I’m pretty disappointed not to have gotten better results but it’s been a nice warm up for the GP next weekend.”

Former grand prix winner Mackenzie will return to the world championship at this weekend’s British Grand Prix in the MX1 class at Matterley Basin.
