Current national Pro Lites number two Kirk Gibbs was on hand today at Barrabool testing the CDR Rockstar Energy Drink Yamaha YZ450Fs of Jay Marmont and Josh Coppins.
Serco Yoshimura Yamaha regular Gibbs was on track during Yamaha’s media test, joining the nation’s leading press outlets in a unique test aboard the factory Yamahas.
“When I went down to Nowra for the NSW state title we went riding at Bega and Jay gave me a ride there as well,” Gibbs told MotoOnline.com.au.
“I really liked it then, so I was definitely looking forward to today when Yamaha invited me to come and ride again.
“Today was unreal, I had lots of fun and likes things from both Jay and Josh’s bikes. If I could take my favourite things from both bikes it’d suit me to the ground. I loved riding their bikes, with such good power and handling – I’m just happy to be here.”
Gibbs has finished runner-up in the Pro Lites category of the MX Nationals two years in a row, and he’s keen to step up to Pro Open full time in 2012 if there’s a position available.
“I’d definitely like to move up next year, it just depends if an oppurtunity comes up,” Gibbs added. “I just want to keep my bum on a seat, just keep riding and have fun.
“My goal is obviously to step up, but if it doesn’t come next year then I’ll keep plugging away at it and doing what I have to do to get there in the future.”
Other Yamaha identities to take to the track today included Freestyle Motocross hero Cameron Sinclair, as well as former Mr. Motocross Stephen Gall.
