Rockstar Energy Suzuki World MX1’s Clement Desalle is still pushing his hardest to stay in the hunt for the 2011 MX1 World Championship, as seen by his victory on the weekend at the Czech Grand Prix.
In a day that saw morning rain create a slick and hard to pass track, Desalle took second behind Honda’s Rui Concalves in the first moto, before taking the win in moto two to seal the overall.
“My shoulder is getting better and better but this track was really difficult, especially for passing,” Desalle commented.
“You had to fight really hard and be a bit aggressive. It was not so cool but you had to show that you were there to make a pass. It wasn’t fun out there and if there were more lines then that would have helped.”
After leading the championship early in the season, the young Belgian has battled multiple injuries throughout the middle of the 2011 season.
Despite dealing with a niggling shoulder injury, Desalle has proved he is not going to let current series leader, Red Bull Teka KTM’s Antonio Cairoli, take the title without a fight.
“For the Championship, we can only look to the front and everything can still happen. I had to ride hurt and this is a part of motocross that I don’t like! But the team has helped me deal with this situation and I have learned a lot.”
Desalle currently trails Cairoli by 48 points with three rounds remaining in the MX1 World Championship, with the next round set to go down at Manchester, UK on August 21.
