It’s been confirmed that Campbelltown Stadium will take over from Parramatta as Sydney’s official host of the Monster Energy Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship.
The Macarthur Chronicle is today reporting that the event has been finalised in a deal struck between Campbelltown Council and Global Action Sports.
The local paper commenced a campaign to take Super X to Campbelltown at the beginning of this month, with the round now confirmed for 5 November, 2011.
“Campbelltown Stadium is a fantastic venue for supercross and the atmosphere at the event is going to be amazing,” GAS managing director Michael Porra told the Macarthur Chronicle.
“We’ve also had very good community support in Campbelltown which was another factor in us deciding to come out there.
“Over the last three years the Super X events in western Sydney have been a stand out for everyone involved because the riders have raised the bar for one of their biggest races of the year, which has produced fantastic racing and the fans always get right behind it.”
Campbelltown mayor Paul Lake was equally excited to host the Sydney round of Super X at the town’s local stadium.
“From speaking with people in Campbelltown they are extremely thrilled with the idea this event could come to the area,” Lake also told the Macarthur Chronicle.
“This is a feather in our cap and the people at Campbelltown Council who secured this should be congratulated. It will attract thousands of people to our area and bring major dollars to our businesses.”
The paper is reporting that tickets will go on sale on 14 August, 2011, while a complete calendar is expected to be released this week.
