Victorian hope Cheyne Boyd isn’t ruling his title chances out in the 2011 Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals, looking to make his mark when the series makes its first visit to Coonabarabran this weekend.

Carlton Dry Honda Thor Racing’s Boyd currently sits fourth in the Pro Open Championship, just 51 points out of the series lead after a consistent effort to date.

“With the new formats this year there are still so many points up for grabs. We are continually making improvements and moving forward so I think I am still in with a good chance,” Boyd commented.

Boyd had a successful break between MX Nationals events, taking out the third round of the Victorian State Championships at Swan Hill over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.

“I’ve had the speed all year. It’s just been a few little things holding me back and now we are getting onto top of them,” Boyd added.

“I am really looking forward to Coonabarabran, it is a new track and at nearly three kilometres a lap is going to be quite different to what we are used to.

“We were able to do some testing there on our way to Toowoomba so we know what to expect in terms of the track condition and layout.”

Despite taking no less than three top three finishes during the motos this year, Boyd is yet to reach an overall podium at this point since joining Honda for the season.
