Rockstar Energy Suzuki World MX1’s Clement Desalle has taken lessons away from his dominant victory at the Grand Prix of Portugal on the weekend, acknowledging some mistakes despite the perfect scorecard.
Desalle was able to grab his third pole qualifying position for the year at the Agueda circuit and turn it into two race victories.
After leading the first moto from start to finish, race two saw Desalle make his way through to the front froma third place start, however he was forced to deal with pressure from championship rival, Red Bull Teka KTM’s Antonio Cairoli at the end of both motos.
Although obviously happy to come away with maximum points, Desalle admitted he still made some mistakes and is learning more about leading races and dealing with pressure.
“It was good to win and I’m happy with the result but I’m not that pleased with some mistakes I made,” Desalle explained.
“Tony was getting close to me both times but I stayed focused and didn’t want to crash. I wasn’t tense and I knew what speed I could do.”
“It was good to get more experience of being at the front and learning from the pressure!”
Desalle stretched his lead in the championship from six points to 12 over Cairoli, but says that is is too early to think much about the points at this stage.
“I am still leading the Championship, but we will think about this more at the end of the season,” he added.
The FIM Motocross World Championship will move to Spain this weekend for round seven of the series at La Baneza.
