Australia’s Brett Metcalfe enjoyed a solid start to the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship season this past weekend at Hangtown.
After spending the majority of the supercross season injured, the Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider qualified seventh and posted 5-5 moto finishes to take home fifth overall on the day.
Metcalfe was pleased with the result, happy to be back on the bike with a decent result that he can build on in the coming weeks.
“It was a really awesome today,” said Metcalfe.
“It’s good to be back with my Rockstar Makita Suzuki team after being out injured for a while. My Yoshimura-equipped RM-Z was unreal this weekend.”
“It is good to be back racing and I really like the outdoors, so that’s a plus for me. I wanted to get a good start to the season and I’m really happy with this fifth overall finish,” he commented.
Moto one saw the guy they call ‘Metty’ start in second, losing a few positions throughout the race to finish fifth. Moto two saw Metty move his way through the field from a tenth place start to once again take fifth in the race and fifth for the day.
With not only a solid first round result under his belt, Metcalfe also feels that they gained some good knowledge and feedback that will help improve his setup and feel for the bike.
“Coming away, we got a good load of information and learned a lot that will help give me a little more speed out there by making me more comfortable, and then I’ll be able to be more aggressive,” Metcalfe added.
“I’m really looking forward to the next round in Texas so I can build on this result.”
This weekend will see the circuit head to Freestone, Texas for round two of the series.
