Team Rockstar Motul Suzuki couldn’t have asked for a much better weekend after taking overall honours in both Pro Open and Pro Lites competition at round five of the Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals at Toowoomba’s Echo Valley.

In treacherously muddy conditions that saw the days Pro Lites and Under 19s races cut down from four rounds to three, team riders Cody Cooper and Daniel McCoy rose to the occasion, both taking well earned victories in their respective classes.

Considered a serious title threat in the Pro Open category coming in to the 2011 season, rib and lung injuries suffered at round two have seriously derailed Cooper’s championship hopes.

Echo Valley has seen Cooper return to the dominant form many expect from him. In conditions that saw many struggle to put four strong races together, the Kiwi put together a strong 1-2-1-3 moto scorecard to take the overall round win.

The win moves Cooper back within the championship top ten, now sitting at eighth place in the series.

McCoy used consistent solid moto scores to take the Echo Valley overall.

In the Pro Lites class, Daniel McCoy was also able to record his first overall win of the season. 2011 has seen him post consistently solid results at each round, resulting in a fourth place series ranking coming into Toowoomba.

Consistency once again paid off for McCoy, as 2-3-2 race finishes saw him leave Echo Valley with the round win and third place in the championship.

Team Manager Jay Foreman was understandably happy with his teams performance.

“It was great to see Cody back to winning form. Even though he is still suffering a bit from fatigue due to lack of riding, he is clearly on his way back to a level close to that before his injury,” Foreman stated.

“Daniel has ridden consistently well this year. Now that he has a round win, it puts him in a strong position to challenge for the title. He is only 25 points off second so we will continue to chip away at that margin. We are still working on developing the bike for Daniel and each round we are getting better and faster.

“To win both classes at a National Championship round really shows how good Suzuki’s four-stroke RM-Z motocross range is. The clean sweep is also a great acknowledgment of how our sponsor’s product helps us go racing.”

Foreman and the team will look to carry this momentum as the series moves to Coonabarabran for round six next month.
