Sixteen year old Coastal KTM rider Jay Wilson grabbed victory in the Under 19’s category for the first time this season at round five of the Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals, held atToowoomba’s Echo Valley circuit.
In trying conditions which saw the schedule cut down to three rounds of racing, Wilson dominated the opening moto, winning by over a minute.
“The weekend went really good, I couldn’t believe I had such a big lead with over a minute advantage in moto one and it’s my first top result in the Under 19s series,” Wilson reflected after the race.
Wilson was able to follow his first race win with a pair of third place finishes in the following two races, handing him the overall win on the day.
“In the next two races I just had to stay consistent, finished with two thirds and that gave us the overall,” said Wilson.
“I’m happy with that and now I’ve got the monkey off my shoulders we can go on from here.”
The win moves Wilson to seventh place in the Under 19s championship, as the series takes a four week break before heading Coonabarabran’s Goanna Tracks complex on June 22 for round six.
