Monster Energy Yamaha’s David Philippaerts has tasted MX1 victory for the first time this season at round four of the MX World Championsip series in Brazil.

After a less than stellar weekend at last weekends USGP, his 2-1 moto scorecard at the Indaiatuba circuit saw Philippaerts narrowly defeat Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli for the overall win.

Philippaert was noticeably excited about the win, with it not only moving him back up to fourth in the championship standings, but no doubt providing the former MX1 world champion with a much needed confidence boost.

After winning the first race of the day, some mistakes in the second cost Cairoli the moto win and subsequently the overall. However, it is still a good result for Italian, as he cut into the points gap between himself and championship leader, Rockstar Energy Suzuki World MX1’s Clemente Desalle.

Desalle rode well in both races. Climbing all the way back to second in the first race after a bad start, only to make a mistake and drop back to fourth. The second moto saw another mistake drop him from the lead and back to fourth once again.

Despite this, Desalle still leaves Brazil with a third place overall and the championship lead intact.

Desallle now holds an eleven point lead over Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing’s Max Nagl going into round five in France, while Cairoli sits another two points back in third.
