Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings took the MX2 win at the fourth round of the FIM World Motocross Championship at Brazil’s Indaiatuba circuit.

After crossing the line second in the first race behind team mate, German wonder kid Ken Roczen, Herlings capitalised on Roczen taking two falls to capture the overall victory.

Roczen still leads the championship after his second place result, and Herlings has admitted that he needs to work hard once back in Europe to close the points gap between himself and his championship rival.

Third overall on the day went to Monster Energy Yamaha’s Gautier Paulin, who took his first podium of the year with solid 3-3 moto scores. The French rider said he is very satisfied with the result after the hard work he and his team have been putting in.

Controversy surrounded the day’s fourth place getter, CLS Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Tommy Searle. After sitting second in the qualifying race, Searle fell, but was able to remount for a ninth place finish and gate pick. However, after two spectators jumped the fence and touched his bike, FIM ruling forced race officials to demote Searle to final gate choice, forcing him to start from the far outside.

To his credit, he was still able to ride through the pack after terrible starts in both races to take fourth overall on the day.

Rounding out the the top five was the USA’s Zach Osborne, finishing with a pair of solid 5-5 finishes.

Roczen now holds a fourteen point lead in the MX2 championship, as the series moves to France’s Saint Jean d’Angely circuit on June 5 for round five.
