German teenager Ken Roczen is looking at the upcoming United States Grand Prix at Glen Helen as his home round away from home, hopeful that he can make his mark on American soil after spending much of the 2011 season there to date.
The Red Bull Teka KTM Racing team rider, who turned 17 late last month, has proven a popular addition to select AMA Supercross races this season, finishing on the podium at both Anaheim 2 and Salt Lake City.
Already the MX2 Motocross World Championship title leader after two rounds, Roczen this week told renowned European website MXlarge – a partner of MotoOnline – that he plans to dominate when the series reaches California on 14-15 May.
“It would be seriously like a home grand prix at Glen Helen, it’s going to be fun,” Roczen said. “Let’s see how it will be and how the fans will be. “I want to go there and totally dominate – I want that gap between me and the others.
“I want a big lead from the second guy, I want to win big time. I mean it doesn’t matter if I win by a minute or a second, but I want to be stronger than anyone else.”
Before then however, Roczen will also take part in this weekend’s AMA Supercross season finale at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium, continuing his unique efforts of splitting his time between World Motocross and American Supercross.
