Jake Moss to take one step at a time in MX Nationals return

Jake Moss will return to action this weekend at Appin in New South Wales.

Former national champion Jake Moss is going to take it one step at a time as he returns from injury this weekend at Appin’s MX Nationals round to debut for Serco Yoshimura Yamaha.

Moss, who won the title for Serco Yamaha in 2007, will contest the Pro Lites season alongside twin brother and current title leader Matt in 2011, recovering from a shoulder injury suffered in a German Supercross during the off-season.

“There is nothing worse than watching a race you are supposed to be in,” Moss said after being track side at round one.

“But, considering the injury, the recovery process has been pretty good and now it’s just a matter of building track time and race conditioning.”

“I only have missed one round and with this being a 36-race championship, there is plenty of time to get back to full race speed.

“I have set some modest goals for this weekend, but look forward to getting back into racing at a track that is close to home and with my friends and family watching.”

Moss will join new teammates Kirk Gibbs and Ford Dale on the Queensland-based team, with Gibbs taking a clean-sweep in the Sunshine State Series at Warwick last weekend.

“With all the wet weather at the start of the year, it was really hard to get some actual race time because of all the cancellations,” Gibbs said.

“The Warwick event is great for me as I got behind a start gate, rode on a rough and challenging track against some good opposition. I feel much better for the hit out and I’m ready to go this weekend.”

Dale has also been gaining momentum, riding in Northern New South Wales with Dean Ferris in the lead-up to Appin.

Dale again showed blistering speed at the opening round and for round two the goal is to get some consistency into his racing and bring home a podium result.

“I like to ride a lot and Dean is the same as me, so we decided to get on the road and hunt out some good tracks where the weather wouldn’t be an issue,” he explained.

“I have done most of my training on a 450 and I feel that helps me when stepping back onto the 250. It gives me a bit better strength and also makes me think a little more on the track and cut out the silly mistakes.”
