Rockstar Motul Suzuki’s newest signing Daniel McCoy believes his switch to the Pro Lites aboard the factory RM-Z250 is the boost that his career needed heading into season 2011.
McCoy had spent the last two seasons aboard a satellite supported KTM in the Pro Open category, but he’s adamant that being on a factory team in the Lites class is a step forward in his career.
After finishing seventh on debut at Broadford’s opening MX Nationals round earlier this month and currently leading the New Zealand Motocross Championship, McCoy is enjoying the support from the Jay Foreman-managed Suzuki squad.
“A lot of people have said to me that it’s a step backwards, but for me it’s a step up just having the support from Suzuki and everyone involved in the team,” McCoy commented.
“It’s just so good to know I’ve got good equipment and the right bike to put everything in place and try to win a championship.”
McCoy has ridden for a cast of factory teams in Australia, riding for Yamaha, KTM, Honda and now Suzuki within the last decade. McCoy also had a short stint with Troy Carroll’s Kawasaki team before it gained factory status in 2009.
