GYTR Rockstar Yamaha’s Luke Arbon won his second ever Australian Motocross round at Broadford’s season opener earlier this month, racing through the pain of a back injury to claim the overall.
It was a popular win the for hard working 18-year-old, and the bad news for his competitors heading into Appin on 3 April is that his back is healing thanks to the recent weekends off.
“The break between rounds has been awesome and I’ve done a lot of riding, plus some testing and I was able to get my suspension even better,” Arbon commented. “The back injury is defeinitely settling down now so that’s really good.
“I found out I have a hernia so I’ve backed off on the training a little bit, although I’ve still been riding because that doesn’t strain my stomach and I’m happy with the progress we’ve made.”
Arbon is solely focused on the title in 2011, and he’s confident that his two years of experience will pay off as the season progresses.
“Last year I was able to win a round, but this year I’ve got a lot more experience and I feel like I know what to expect that’s for sure,” he added. “The championship’s been my goal the last two years but the first season was a shock and last year I had hopes of winning, but it didn’t turn out.
“This year I have the mindset that I want to win and that’s what I love to do, so hopefully I can get it done. That’s definitely the goal this year.”
Arbon won the opening round ahead of Raceline Pirelli Suzuki’s Errol Willis and teammate Shaun Redhead.
