Team Honda Racing teammates Wayne Maxwell and Jamie Stauffer are confident that they have what it takes to stop the Glenn Allerton freight train when the Australian Superbike Championship series enters Hidden Valley next month.
Allerton and his Procon Maxima BMW Racing S 1000 RR have won two rounds from two so far in 2011, but both Maxwell and Stauffer believe they’re finally working through the in Honda Australia’s official return to domestic road racing.
At Symmons Plains last weekend Maxwell scored a pair of second places for third overall, and he believes a win is just around the corner after taking Superpole at both rounds.
“Team Honda Racing has been working very hard and I think it is going to show at the next round and beyond,” Maxwell predicted. “The first race I felt strong, but got tangled with Jamie with four laps to go and came second.
“Race two, I struggled a bit, but still managed a second which is encouraging. I am looking forward to testing and developing the CBR1000RR further and going for a race win at round three.”
Stauffer now sits third in the championship overall after taking a fifth and a third place in the weekend’s races and says he feels the CBR1000RR needs only minor adjustments to put it in a position to take the win in Darwin next month.
“Our bike really improved from the last round at Phillip Island and we were fast but still need that little bit extra,” the former dual ASBK champion said. “We have the pace to race for podium positions so we just need to work hard to convert the pace to race wins.”
Darwin’s round will take place at Hidden Valley on 14-17 April, a round dominated by Team Suzuki’s Josh Waters last season.
