Procon Maxima Racing BMW’s Glenn Allerton took his third win in four attempts for the 2011 season in Symmons Plains’ second race of round two of the Australian Superbike Championship this afternoon.

Allerton put in a flawless performance to make his way to the front with just five laps remaining, quickly stretching out a lead and eventually taking the chequers by 1.444 seconds after 20 laps.

Allerton won the race and the overall with the win, proving his Phillip Island sweep was no fluke as his opponents just couldn’t maintain the pace over the race distance in Tasmania.

“I feel really comfortable – hats off to the entire Procon Maxima BMW Racing team,” the 2008 champion said. “We’ll head to Hidden Valley from here and be just as strong.”

Crossing the line second was Team Honda Racing’s Wayne Maxwell from teammate Jamie Stauffer, while race one winner Josh Waters was fourth for Team Suzuki.

Waters’ result earned him second overall ahead of Maxwell in his return to the ASBK series.

Standout rookie Troy Herfoss (Team Suzuki) was fifth in race two as he trailed Waters, finishing ahead of satellite Suzuki rider Robbie Bugden.

Waters and Herfoss pushed hard to make inroads mid-race, only to fall short as the pace increased in the final stages after Allerton took over at the front.

Stay tuned for a full report across all categories from the weekend this afternoon.
