This weekend marks the first time that Shawn Giles will watch from the sidelines since announcing his retirement from Australian Superbike competition.
The former three-time champion is on hand with Team Suzuki in an advisory role, and he admits that watching his former competitors in action does make him a little envious – even if he is content in retirement.
“Watching it a little bit makes me want to get back out there, but I do still like watching racing,” Giles commented. “Still, it’s good to be here to watch the Suzuki guys ride around and give them some help if they need it – that’s what I’m here for.
“What I’m enjoying is seeing the riders achieve great things and just being here for Suzuki, basically.”
The 40-year-old New South Welshman will remain a familiar face in the Suzuki pit this year, scheduled to attend each and every round of the ASBK series once again with the team.
“I’m going to be at all the rounds and do some other stuff for Suzuki,” he added. “I’ll be there to give the guys a hand, talk to them if they need any guidance and yeah, that’s about it.”
Team Suzuki’s ASBK effort will feature Troy Herfoss and Brodie Waters this season, while Josh Waters will contest a partial season with the team.
