MotoGP World champion Jorge Lorenzo is calling on Yamaha to provide him with more power from the YZR-M1 if he is to challenge Honda for the 2011 title.
The Spaniard was only fifth quickest in day two of testing at Sepang yesterday, trailing new teammate Ben Spies by one position, but again off the pace of the Repsol Honda trio including Aussie Casey Stoner, Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso.
“It was a hard and hot day today, we tried the test bike as well as my 2011 bike to reconfirm a number of new developments,” Lorenzo commented.
“We confirmed that the direction is right so we will continue tomorrow with this direction on my M1.
“We’ve definitely improved the traction a lot, although we could still do with some more power.”
Despite his engine concerns, Lorenzo was consistently quick in running under the 2:01 mark for the majority of the day. In the end, he was just 0.76 seconds from the top of the time sheets.
