Motorcycling Australia has revealed factory Kawasaki World Superbike team rider Chris Vermeulen as the official MA Ambassador.
Vermeulen has become one of the most recognisable faces in Australian motorcycle sport with his accomplishments in WSBK and MotoGP, and renowned professionalism off the bike.
As MA Ambassador, the Queenslander will work to promote all aspects of MA programs and projects, particularly the MA Junior Development Program – an area he is very passionate about.
“From my point of view and with my career in road racing, it’s great to be involved with Motorcycling Australia helping to promote and develop the sport,” Vermeulen said.
“Junior development and participation is definitely an area I am very passionate about, it’s not just helping to see certain kids through from Junior racing to world champions, but also giving everyone a chance to enjoy the sport.
“Motorcycle sport is not just about racing, it’s a lifestyle. Some people enjoy racing, some spectating and other’s love to get involved as officials and volunteers.
“It’s important that we make these roles as enjoyable as possible to not only keep people involved, but to attract more to become a part of the sport I love.”
It is this passion, coupled with his standing in International sport, that MA believes makes Vermeulen the perfect MA Ambassador and an asset to developing and growing Motorcycle Sport in Australia.
MA Chief Executive Officer David White was pleased to invite Vermeulen into the MA family and hopes this will be the start of a successful relationship between the WSBK star and the sport’s governing body in Australia.
“On behalf of Motorcycling Australia I would like to whole-heartedly welcome Chris to the MA family,” David said. “His achievements on the bike are without question and his conduct and professionalism off it is renowned around the world.
“Not only are we excited to be working with a true star of Australian sport, but we are excited to bring someone to MA who is passionate about the sport and has a desire to play a major role in its development and promotion.”
Recovering from a serious knee injury sustained at the beginning of 2010, Vermeulen’s preparations are on track to make his triumphant return to the WSBK fold in 2011, with the 2005 WSBK runner-up looking forward to the challenges on and off the bike.
“I’m really looking forward to this season on board the Kawasaki. It’s going to be an exciting year for me on and off the track,” he commented. “It will be heaps of fun working with MA and I am grateful for the chance to help promote Motorcycle sport through this organisation.”
In addition to his promotional tasks, Vermeulen will write a series of blogs for the MA Website throughout 2011, giving users an insight into the world of elite-level International competition.
Fans will get the opportunity to meet Vermeulen in person, with the Kawasaki rider to make appearances as MA ambassador when scheduling permits.
