The Yamaha Australia round of Superbike World Championship from 25-27 February is set to be a massive three day celebration of racing, with the season opener marking the 21st birthday of World Superbike racing at Victoria’s legendary Phillip Island.
With a confirmed entry for the island of five Australian riders in World Superbike and two Aussies in World Supersport, fans will have plenty to cheer about when the globe’s best hit the thrilling 4.45km grand prix circuit for the world championship classes.
In addition, the event features the opening round of the Viking Group Australian Superbike Championships featuring Superbike, Prostock, Supersport and Superstock 600 and standalone events for the popular Historic bikes, the type of which kickstarted Wayne Gardner’s road to stardom.
In all, there will be 12 races at Phillip Island over the three days, with both World Superbike and World Supersport scheduled for free practice on Friday morning and first qualifying Friday afternoon.
Friday also includes racing from the Historics, and first and second qualifying for the national classes.
Saturday is back to back action, with final qualifying and the three stage elimination Superpole for World Superbikes, qualifying for World Supersport and five races for the national classes.
Sunday is world championship race day with two 22-lap World Superbike races held at 12.00pm and 3.30pm on Sunday, the single World Supersport event at 1.30pm and plenty of great racing from the national classes.
