The opening round of the Australian Speedway Championship has been cancelled.

Motorcycling Australia has revealed that the first round of the 2011 Australian Solo Speedway Championship has been cancelled.

Originally scheduled to take place in Sydney on Wednesday, 12 January, the event was relocated to Kurri Kurri earlier this week after recent rain has played havoc with the Sprintcar season.

Upon reviewing the decision to relocate the event at short notice, MA and the event organisers have agreed it is in the best interests of the championship to cancel the round.

The championship will run over four rounds, starting in Kurri Kurri on Saturday, 15 January.
