Review: 2010 ONE Industries Defcon gear

MotoOnline.com.au puts ONE Industries’ Defcon riding gear through its paces.

ONE Industries launched its racewear at the end of 2008 and has since risen to become one of the leaders in dirt bike riding apparel thanks to its quality, comfort and style. MotoOnline.com.au was has been lucky enough to get our hands on a set to review.

ONE Industries gear is some of the most stylish available on the market.

ONE Industries gear is some of the most stylish available on the market.

What It Is
The Defcon jersey is designed to be worn in the attack position on the bike, and is constructed with the finest materials available on the planet.

Constructed from 17 individually cut and sewn panels, the Defcon jersey is carefully crafted to incorporate each of these panels into one inclusive piece that works in unison with the riders on bike movements.

It’s constructed from 100 percent sublimated moisture managing polyester materials, with strategically placed venting panels promote constant airflow.

A padded collar area increases comfort when wearing a neck brace, while articulated sleeves with padded elbows enhance comfort in the attack position.

The extended rear drop panel keeps the jersey tucked in, and lightweight micro cuffs add to the jersey’s comfort.

As for the Defcon race pant, it has one of the most technologically advanced knee patterns ever designed, and has been improved through rider input and race testing.

Its lightweight sublimated 300 Dobby Polyester construction ensures durability while maintaining comfort, and the electric mesh on the outer thigh, knee and lower leg areas to promote airflow.

A floating rear yoke bordered by ribbed spandex enhances flexibility in both sitting and standing positions, while a tough Cordura saddle offers durability and extends the life of the pant

There are liberal amounts of full grain leather in the knee area for increased durability and resistance to heat.

In addition, there’s a 3/4 length printed inner pant liner.

The three-panel pyramid style knee creates a pre-curved attack position while accommodating knee braces. Wave ribbed spandex above knee works in conjunction with the knee system for superior mobility.

Lycra back knee panel reduces bunching and adds comfort, while the quad-fit inner panel allows unrestricted movement while keeping the pants in the correct position.

Inspired by modern design and fashion, the Zero Glove isn’t only exotic in look and appearance, it’s materials, innovative details and ‘on grip’ feel and comfort make it a highly functional, high performance motocross glove.

The Zero glove features a single layer Clarino palm, has tacky rubber index and middle finger surfaced tips to optimize lever traction, perforated Clarino thumb overlay and Lycra mesh finger side panels.

The Defcon gear is a larger fitment, however venting and comfort is on point.

How It Rates
ONE Industries have a history of designing cool looking moto products, and for 2010, its line of racewear is certainly on target when it comes to the style department.

But while it’s easy to see that ONE has the styling sorted, its quality and comfort that will keep consumers returning to the brand year in, year out.

Staring with the jersey, first things first, make sure you try it on before you order. The fit of the Medium size is quite large compared to most brands, however it was still comfortable enough.

The air venting works a treat, while the collar and wrist cuffs are both a comfortable fit. Padding in the elbow sections also come in handy, typically larger than most modern gear.

The pants are also a large fit in comparison with other leading brands that I have worn, although again they fit knee braces underneath comfortably with no issues at all.

Even though this particular pant is larger than I usually wear, the adjustment around the waste works well and I have never had any issue whatsoever of them falling down while out on the bike.

Like the jersey, venting is not a problem even though I haven’t used them in summer months just yet, and all the stretch panels seem to work in the correct places.

The glove isn’t as minimalist as some available on the market, however they wore in quickly without giving me blisters and have since proved comfortable enough for me to continue wearing them again and again.

Overall ONE has a lot to be proud of with little experience in apparel, and you can expect it to continue improving as the years roll over and some of the best riders and teams in the world develop it.
