Scotsman Billy Mackenzie is adamant that he’ll ease into his Monster Energy Super X debut when the sixth round of the Australasian Supercross Championship reaches Sydney tonight.
Mackenzie was impressive during the MX Nationals for the Kawasaki Racing Team to finish second in the Pro Open series and win multiple races, however he admits that Supercross is a whole different ballgame.
“I’m definitely looking forward to it,” Mackenzie told MotoOnline.com.au. “The track looks good, because the other tracks I’ve seen looked pretty difficult, but it looks like this one in Sydney is good for me – doesn’t seem too difficult.
“I’ve been riding for about a month, didn’t want to come straight into Supercross with no practice. Right now I’m enjoying it, but I guess once I get onto the start line the nerves will kick in.”
Mackenzie, a former Motocross GP race winner from Europe, has been testing in Queensland after suffering a broken collarbone, the injury that forced him to delay his Super X debut.
“The team’s not putting any pressure on me, they’ve just said to go and have some fun,” he said. “The injury’s all healed up now and we wanted to make sure it was before I came to race Supercross.
“Touch wood I can stay safe tonight, have a good time and enjoy the experience.”
Despite his intentions to ease into Super X, BillyMac was a surprise fourth quickest in the first seeded Open practice of the afternoon.
