American Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider Josh Hansen has captured his maiden Monster Energy Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, victory at Auckland in New Zealand tonight.

The talented 25-year-old won the opening three finals in tonight’s Quad Challenge, sealing the overall with a third place finish during final four of the Open class main event to extend his series lead to 32 points after four of seven rounds.

“I am super stoked to get the win,” dual X Games gold medalist Hansen said. “I would have loved to win all four, but I guess I can’t be greedy.

“I am so happy Monster Energy was able to bring me out here for Super X because I am loving this place, the series and the people.”

Second overall was triple Australian Motocross Champion Jay Marmont, the CDR Rockstar Energy Yamaha rider taking his first main event race victory of the year in the fourth and final moto during Auckland’s round.

Marmont finished with 3-2-3 results in the opening three finals of the night.

“It’s a relief to finally get a win and I enjoyed racing tonight,” the Wollongong resident commented. “I finally got the start I wanted to in the final race and it paid off.”

Rounding out the podium was the in-form Jake Moss, who continues to gain momentum on his Rockstar Motul Suzuki, enjoying a consistent night and challenging for victory on his way to a solid 2-3-2-2 tally.

“It feels good to be on the podium and I am really happy with the way I rode tonight,” Moss beamed. “I really want to thank my team and family for all the support they have given me.”

Moss’ result boosted him to third in the championship, three clear of JDR Motorex KTM’s Tye Simmonds, who took a stunning fourth overall on the 2011 KTM 350SX-F in Auckland.

Completing the top five was Hart and Huntington Coastal KTM’s Dan McCoy, edging out Kiwi local Cody Cooper for the position in the Suzuki rider’s first Super X race of the year.

Cougar Bourbon Honda’s Todd Waters was seventh ahead of American Mike Alessi (JDR Motorex KTM), the Californian racing through the pain of cracked ribs suffered during practice.

Queenslander Dan Reardon (Cougar Bourbon Honda Racing) saw his title prospects slide with an uncharacteristic ninth, while another Kiwi in Mason Phillips rounded out the top 10.

New Zealand supercross star Ben Townley had a very unlucky fall in his heat race and was forced to withdraw from the event with a suspected hip injury.

Also ruled out of contention was American Jeff Alessi in his Super X debut after setting a fast pace during practice and qualifying.

The Lites final once again kept the fans on the edge of their seat with America’s PJ Larsen the eventual overall winner in the Triple Challenge. He rode himself in to two first places and one third.

Larsen’s teammate for JDR Motorex KTM Ryan Marmont finished second overall with one second and two fourths and Luke Styke (Rockstar GYTR Yamaha) third overall with one third and a pair of sixth places.

Rockstar Motul Suzuki’s Matt Moss had a collision with Kawasaki Racing Team Cool Air Conditioning’s Luke Arbon in the second moto and was unable to start his bike until the final lap to finish. He finished fourth overall.

Larsen now moves into first place in the championship, nine points ahead of Moss. Marmont sits in third.

The series now heads south to Dunedin for the fifth round at Carisbrook Stadium next Saturday night.

All riders spared a thought for young rider Harley Quinlan, who had a severe crash during training during the week, with all of them wishing him and his family well.
