Aurora Stadium in Launceston has been transformed from an AFL ground into a Supercross track for round three of the 2010 Monster Energy Super X Championship this Saturday, 30 October.

Once again a huge lineup of international and Australian Supercross riders will take to the track and battle it out for all-important championship points.

Geico Powersports Cougar Honda’s Kevin Windham (USA), who extended his trip to Australia to compete in the Tasmanian round this weekend, has enjoyed seeing the sights of Sydney this week, but is ready to race and is aiming for another solid win and performance in his final race of the series.

“I have had the best week and love Australia and I am so glad I was able to extend my trip to fit in another race before returning home,” he commented. “It’s going to be really competitive racing this weekend and it would be great to leave with two wins.”

Current championship leader Josh Hansen (USA) riding for the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki team, will be doing his best to prevent Windham making it two from two and is hoping to go one better than his second place finish last week.

“The competition has been really good and I am having a lot of fun racing,” Hansen said. “I came here to win and that is what I plan on doing tomorrow night.”

It is also the last round of the series for Muscle Milk/Toyota/JGRMX’s Justin Brayton (USA) who enters the round in second overall.

“My plan was to be leading the championship when I headed back to the U.S. on Sunday, but I am just short of Josh [Hansen] in overall points,” Brayton commented. “Kevin [Windham], Josh [Hansen] and I were all really close last week so I am sure it will be like that again this week.”

The highest placed Australian rider in the championship, CDR Rockstar Yamaha’s Jay Marmont, who is third overall, is keen for a repeat of last year’s Tasmanian performance when he won the opening round of the championship.

“It’s great to be back in Tasmania,” crowd favourite Marmont said. “I had my second Super X win here last year so there are good memories for me here. I am feeling really focused this week and the track is looking great so hopefully the weather holds out and we can put on a good show for the fans.”

This weekend will see a Super X first with the introduction of the International Relay Challenge – Australia versus America. The teams will be made up of the top four Open riders and one top Lites rider. Riders will go head to head over two laps and once they pass the finish, hand their bike to their mechanic and run to tag the next team member who will need to get on his bike, start it and race.

The Open class will race off in the Survival format in the main event final, which splits the race across four, six lap races. After every six laps the last five competitors will be eliminated until five riders are left in one decisive six lap sprint.

The Lites class final format will be the Double Header, which is contested over two, eight lap races. The Michelin Development series will once again be three, five lap races.

Gates to the event open at 4:00pm, with the main event to start at 6:30pm and finish at 9:30pm.

All rounds of the Monster Energy Super X series will once again be televised live on Fox Sports.

Round three in Launceston will air on Fox Sports 3 from 7:30pm.
