Hometown hero Chad Reed has dominated to take his first ever victory onboard a Honda during tonight’s heat race number two at Newcastle’s Energy Australia Stadium.
The TeamVodafone rider had a text book performance in the opening heat, taking the lead from the start and racing to a comfortable victory ahead of American Josh Hansen and three-time MX Nationals Champion Jay Marmont.
Reed had been a question mark entering tonight’s proceedings, with just limited time aboard the CRF450R and minimal training time before lining up tonight in front of a hoemtown crowd.
Newcastle is set to be Reed’s only Super X appearance of the season at this point, the defending dual champion announcing a one-off deal with TeamVodafone in Darling Harbour during the week.
Stay tuned for a full report from the main events to be staged later in the evening.
