The Sepang International Circuit will appear in the FIM MotoGP World Championship until 2013 after an extension of the current agreement between the circuit and MotoGP commercial rights holders Dorna Sports was made.
The Sepang International Circuit has been a regular feature on the MotoGP race calendar since 1999 and next year´s race weekend, to be held on 21-23 October, will be the 13th time that the circuit hosts the Malaysian Grand Prix, delivering more fantastic action to fans who travel from across Asia.
“I’m delighted with the extension of the agreement with Malaysia, a country with such a tradition of passion for MotoGP,” Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta said. “The Sepang International Circuit, a favourite for riders, has proven to be a state of the art venue both in terms of sheer spectacle and safety.
“After the celebration of 20 years of MotoGP in Malaysia this year, it is very good news that we will continue to cooperate with SIC as they have lots of experience organizing international motorsports events.”
Sepang CEO Razlan Razali is also pleased to have MotoGP return to the venue.
“I’m very happy with the extension of this agreement, which reflects the government commitment to further develop motorsports in Malaysia,” Razali said. “The government recognizes the huge economic impact brought by the event to the country in terms of tourism-related revenue as well as the progress in the motorsports field thanks to the celebration of a MotoGP event in Malaysia”
The announcement of the agreement coincides with the celebration of the 2010 Shell Advance Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix, which takes place this weekend.
