Motorcycling NSW has announced the passing of long-standing industry member and Motorcycling NSW director, Mr Ian Packer, following a long battle with illness.

Ian passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday morning, aged 53.

Packer served the motorcycling community of NSW for more than a decade – highlighted by his many years as a respected Official and Steward, before more recently taking on the role as a Director on the Board of Motorcycling NSW Limited – never taking a backwards step in the fight for bettering the sport and the development of those in or around it.

Mr Packer has also been a long-standing member of the Lake Macquarie Motorcycle Club and took great pride in his part of nurturing a club that is now affectionally referred to as the ‘Home of Champions’ – earning the respect and admiration of many riders whom he’d watched and assisted across a period of more than 10 years.

Ian has played an instrumental part in the sport’s development in NSW, and in doing so, has maintained a level of honourability and reputability to all who knew him, which will stand as his biggest legacy following his passing.

‘Alpacker’ will be greatly missed, not only by his loving family and those he worked with, but by the entire motorcycling community.

Ian was survived by his wife, Dawn, and two children. Motorcycling NSW wishes to express its sincerest condolences and prays to the entire Packer family during this difficult time.

Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced. However, further details will be released as they come to hand.
